Antidote to Record Holiday Gas Prices
Record gas prices don't have to ruin Independence Day fun as the fourth annual KCRiverFest offers food, music, rides and fireworks just minutes from anywhere in the Kansas City metro area July 3 & 4.
/Entertainment News Articles/ - KANSAS CITY, MO, June 15, 2008 - Presented by KCTV 5 & myKSMO TV and located at Kansas City's Berkley Park, KCRiverFest is "Kansas City's Riverfront Tradition." The popular event supports Friends of the River - Kansas City, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the enhancement and development of the riverfront.
"KCRiverFest is the best, most affordable place to celebrate Independence Day in Kansas City," said Chris Gutierrez, event chairperson. "You get great music, food, kids activities and national-caliber fireworks—all without emptying your gas tank."
He added that it is a great "trip on a tankfull" for people in the region looking for an Independence Day holiday getaway.
KCRiverFest is open 4-11:30 p.m. on Thursday July 3rd. The festival reopens at 1 p.m. July 4 and closes at the conclusion of the fireworks show at 10:30 p.m. Admission is $5.00, children 12 and under are free. KCTV myKSMO TV and Cumulus radio stations will broadcast live from the event.
Paid parking is available off the I-35 exit on Front Street at $10 per car, per day. Free shuttles will also transport festival guests directly to the park. Pick-up and drop-off locations are at stops on Third Street and Grand Avenue, Fifth Street and Grand Avenue, and Seventh Street and Grand Avenue. Watch for the yellow buses, which run continuously during festival hours. Strollers, blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged. Pets, coolers and firearms are prohibited.
The Isle of Capri Main Stage will feature music by The Zeros, Sometimes Three, Outlaw Junkies, Retro Rangers, Bayley Kate and Scott Duncan. The two days of musical entertainment will culminate with a stirring performance by the U.S. Air Force Band prior to the Zambelli Pyro Spectacular Fireworks show on July 4th.
"Despite national fireworks shortages, KCRiverFest will still have one of the largest fireworks shows in the region," Gutierrez said. "We are proud to present a show by Zambelli, America's first family of fireworks."
The festival also features extreme Watersports by Tricks & Flips Action Sports. Professional wake boarders, slalom skiers, bare-footers, and others will put on an impressive display of speed, skill, and courage on the Missouri River and at the Slider Pool at Berkley Park. The waterski on the river show time is 5:30 p.m. on July 3rd. July 4th waterski on the river show times are 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Both days will also feature rail jam performances in a special water tank onshore throughout the day.
Also appearing both days on the children's area stage will be Radio Disney's Rockin' Road Crew, which will feature musical performances, games, crafts, prize giveaways and more.
Rides, inflatables, a bungee jump and a rock climbing wall await the kids in the Children's Ride Zone for an additional fee.
Other attractions include the Kansas City Kite Club, the Kansas City Garden Railroad Society and the Steamboat Arabia Museum. Dozens of vendors and exhibitors will also be featured.
