NYC Graffiti Artist Opens New Show: Inspired by tragedy, love and New York City
The Aurora Gallery to host new Hector "Nicer" Nazario series: "Like a Child at Play" September 15, 2011.

LONG ISLAND CITY, NY, August 31, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Opening September 15th, The Aurora Gallery is proud to host an all-new series from renowned New York City graffiti artist and muralist Hector "Nicer" Nazario. The series, entitled Like a Child at Play, began taking shape after the tragic death of Nicer's only child by a stray bullet in the Bronx in July 2010. Each piece in Like a Child at Play features painted works interpreting Nicer's childhood memories of growing up in New York. This event is free to enter. All works are available for purchase.

"In many ways putting together this series of paintings has been a form of therapy for me as an artist," said Nicer. "The tragedy of my son's death made me reflect on my own upbringing and how the new generation of children don't have the same gatherings in the streets to play games anymore. I then started to paint a series of paintings depicting my childhood experiences in NY and I'm glad to debut them at the Aurora gallery."

The opening event for Like a Child at Play will be held from 6 to 10 pm on Thursday, September 15th at The Aurora Gallery, located at 35-18 37th Street in Astoria. Like a Child at Play viewings will be available on Friday, September 16th from 3 to 7 pm, and Saturday, the 17th from 12 noon to 4 pm.

About the name of the series, Nicer added, "Growing up in the birth of hip hop and freestyle music, one title stood out too me as I was looking for a name for this series of paintings: Like a Child at Play. Hope you all enjoy."

Born in the South Bronx in 1967, Nicer discovered his innate creativity early in life. As a teenager, he was drawn to the colored, written graffiti on the subway trains and walls. Nicer became one of the founding members of the famous TATS CRU, his first official introduction to the art world. In 1996, after the TATS Crew had achieved subculture stardom, Nicer and two childhood friends went on to form TATS CRU, INC, with the goal of showing the world that graffiti is a viable art form. Nicer and his "Cru" have showcased their works around the globe and have been featured in such countries as Japan, Israel, England, Spain and Germany.
