History Associates, the leading historical research firm, has written the history of Universal Avionics. "Thirty Years of Innovation," a richly-illustrated history book, was unveiled at the company's 30th anniversary celebration.
ROCKVILLE, MD, November 10, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- History Associates, the leading U.S. historical research firm, announces the publication of the history of Universal Avionics. Thirty Years of Innovation, written by Dr. Kenneth D. Durr, was unveiled at the company's 30th anniversary celebration at the National Business Aviation Association Annual Meeting & Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, in mid-October.
"We are very proud of our 30-year history and it was fitting to celebrate it at the National Business Aviation Show," said Paul DeHerrera, COO of Universal Avionics, noting that the 1982 NBAA convention was pivotal to the successful launch of the company. "The people at History Associates worked with us in close collaboration on extremely tight deadlines. They delivered a well-written manuscript with historic photos and images, ensuring we had a beautiful, illustrated book in time to distribute at the meeting."
Dr. Durr is an accomplished historian who has published business histories in numerous industries, including manufacturing, science, and technology. To prepare the book, Dr. Durr began with background research on the aviation industry. Working on a three month timeline, he traveled to the company's archives in Tucson, Arizona, to conduct documentary and photo research, supplementing this material with several in-person and telephone interviews of key company personnel. As the manuscript drafts took shape, he worked with the company's project team to gather appropriate images and photos to supplement the text.
The book recounts how Universal Avionics became an innovative leader in avionics systems, beginning when founder Hubert L. Naimer led the development of the first Flight Management System. Over the next three decades, the company patented numerous avionics systems that help improve flight safety for all types of aircraft.
